About Marmalady Catering, Vancouver Catering Service

The Beginning of a Recipe… The Marmalady Story
“My passion for cuisine began as a small child watching my father create in the kitchen and reveling in his joy of cooking. I can still remember the first time I was approached by a friend to prepare lunch for her. The smile on her face and joy in her eyes while she ate was all the encouragement I needed to pursue my dream of becoming a chef…”

Team Marmalady
Our team is made up of many different people that all share one common goal: to create the best experience possible from concept to creation to delivery.
The Vancouver Catering and Chef Team

We take great pride in our work, but we have a lot of fun doing it!
We love food and we love what we do!
Every member of Team Marmalady has a unique culinary background, food safe certifications, extensive training and piles of creativity and vision. With a great sense of pride and ownership, each member of our team brings their own unique ideas and flavors to the many savory creations and menu items that you hear everyone in Vancouver raving about.
Allowing an entire team creative control in generating new meal ideas may not seem revolutionary or challenging but when you put into perspective that we are one of the only catering companies in all of Vancouver that has a lunch menu that changes every 3 weeks, you can just imagine the time and effort that goes into creating and testing new ideas!
With a focus on complete customer satisfaction, the Marmalady Team takes great pride in holding a standard of product and service that is untouchable. From the creation of our memorable meals to the delivery of our impeccable service our aim is to settle for nothing but the best. Together we create. Together we’re great!
The Vancouver Catering Delivery Staff
Our Vancouver catering delivery staff is the “wasabi to sushi” – one doesn’t quite taste the same without the other! We handpick our delivery crew based on driving record, kindness, organizational skills, and punctuality. Our valued customers continue to comment on the professional, prompt service they have received over the years making our deliver staff an integral part of Team Marmaldy.
Without all of us, the chefs and delivery staff, we would not be where we are today, running with the best of the best caterers in Vancouver.
Salima Vishram, Executive Chef
Salima Vishram, founder and Executive Chef started Marmalady Catering in 2007 in Vancouver, BC.
After graduating from the Culinary Arts program at VCC (Vancouver Community College), Salima immediately launched Marmalady Catering focusing passionately on creating fresh and healthy meals that were both affordable and convenient. The success of the Marmalady Lunch Cart service proved that her vision was warranted and desperately needed in Vancouver. In just a few short months, Marmalady Catering was quickly recognized as Vancouver’s premier lunch catering service.
Salima is proud of the recent success and growth of Marmalady Catering. After 3 long and “delicious” years, Marmalady Catering continues to grow and has now expanded to a larger kitchen facility at 352 East 10th Avenue to keep up with demand.
Marmalady Catering has built a large range of regular clientele and takes a great deal of pride in being able to provide new and refreshing services on an ongoing basis. Imagination and ingenuity are the ingredients to Marmalady’s undeniably tasty creations and success!

We Pride in our Commitment to Stay Sustainable
It seems to be common knowledge these days that each person or business needs to take responsibility for their part in the Sustainability of our Environment, our Community (or Society), and our Economy. Marmalady Catering has joined the movement and have adapted a few of our own ways to contribute.
Sustainability in the Workplace
Both myself and Chef Salima graduated from Culinary School here in Vancouver. We have noticed a trend happening in the industry that, we feel, needs to change. While students are attending culinary school and learning essential skills and knowledge, their opportunity to enter the workforce without “real life” experience is extremely low as this industry is so competitive. Marmalady is currently offering students short-term or voluntary work-experience while they are attending school, and/or after graduation, to use as a stepping stone into the workforce. Upon completion of their term, they receive a Work Experience letter to take with them as a part of their portfolio. We feel that by supporting the new generation of chefs, we are supporting the Culinary Industry, it’s sustainability and quality.
Sustainability in our Products
From the moment we opened our kitchen, we have made the decision to buy our produce, deli and cheeses from local markets, specifically on Commercial Drive to support local businesses and our community. We buy seasonal and local options to reduce our carbon footprint. All of our bread is bought at a local bakery, rather than from one of the main distributors. This is one more effort to be involved and support local businesses.
Since the demand of to-go containers, disposable plates, cutlery, etc., we have realized the need for a recycling programs in place, as well as, using as many biodegradable products we can. Currently, we are using bio-degradable plates and napkins, and are actively working towards adding to that list.
Sustainability in our Community
All food that is not consumed (with our customer’s permission) is donated to the Union Gospel Mission, an organization who feeds the homeless, seven days a week here in Vancouver. This organization is very close to our hearts, as Chef Salima and other members of the Marmalady team have seen firsthand where our donations go in their volunteer efforts with Union Gospel Mission. Not only are we reducing our amount of food waste, but we are feeding our community on a larger scale.
The quality of our Industry, our Products and our Community are extremely important to Marmalady, and we believe it shows by the way we present ourselves personally and professionally. It will be an on-going process to maintain and improve our Sustainability, and it is our commitment to do so.
